Man hides in boot to evade two-in-car rule
BUTTERWORTH:
People really are getting desperate to be together and cross borders.
When
police stopped a car at a roadblock on a highway in Seberang Jaya yesterday,
they opened the boot – only to find a man hiding in there.
The
motorist was trying to evade the rule that only two people are allowed in each
car under the current movement control order. All three were trying to cross
the border between Butterworth and Seberang Jaya.
In
the 5pm incident at Km2.3 of the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (Kulim-bound)
yesterday, the woman driver from Butterworth had pulled up at a roadblock in a
Proton Waja.
She
told officers that she and another man were headed to a hypermarket in Seberang
Jaya to buy clothes.
Butterworth
and Seberang Jaya are in two separate districts.
When
police ordered her to open her car boot, they discovered another man hiding
there.
Police
found out that it was the woman’s stepson and the man in the front passenger
seat was her stepson’s friend.
Central
Seberang Perai district police chief Shafee Abd Samad said his officers issued
a compound notice to the motorist and told her to make a U-turn and go home.
