“We see this (having a female prime minister) happening in developed nations, and we are also one of the earliest countries in giving women leadership roles.
“Perhaps in present times, they may not get to be prime minister, but there are already women who hold high positions with heavy responsibilities.
“(And) they have been doing a great job,” he said during a talk show on women in development streamed live on his official Facebook page today.
Dr Mahathir said women today are very knowledgeable and rich in experience, making them important contributors to the nation-building process.
“Females form the largest number of students in universities, and they also participate in many activities there, with some pursuing these activities abroad.”
He also said women tend to take their tasks more seriously.
