‘Harimau menangis’ phrase claimed by Neelofa’s mum not hers, yet

The trademark application for the “harimau menangis” phrase by Syarikat Noor Khan Enterprise is still under review.
Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) director-general Datuk Mohd Roslan Mahayudin said the phrase has yet to become the company’s exclusive rights.
In a statement yesterday, he said the application by the company’s owner, Noor Kartini Noor Mohamed, to register the name was accepted by MyIPO in November last year, but its approval is subject to inspection and consideration of the agency.
In a statement yesterday, he said the application by the company’s owner, Noor Kartini Noor Mohamed, to register the name was accepted by MyIPO in November last year, but its approval is subject to inspection and consideration of the agency.
“Noor Kartini should not precede the decision of MyIPO by claiming that the harimau menangis brand has been registered as a trademark and is her company’s exclusive rights.
“MyIPO will process her application as usual, and any decision made is based on existing legal provisions.”
Since yesterday, netizens have been fussing over the issue of the trademark application submitted by Noor Kartini, who is the mother of local celebrity Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor.
It has sparked uproar on social media, with users describing the decision as outrageous, as many others have been using the name for their beef-based products.
