ASSIGNMENT 3 (POLITICS 2)
Muda founder Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the application to register Muda was submitted to the RoS on Sept 17, and the sponsors for the party had yet to receive any update of the registration status from RoS.
According to Syed Saddiq who is also Muar MP, Muda has since appointed former Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas and Former Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan to represent them over its registration issue.
"We are serious and we express our gratitude to these two prominent lawyers for taking our case to ensure the smooth registration of Muda."If the approval is not received within seven days, we will bring this case to court," he said.
Earlier today, Syed Saddiq with a group of 50 Muda supporters had submitted a lawyer's letter to the RoS at its headquarters in Putrajaya on the matter.
The former Youth and Sports Minister told reporters that RoS had informed Muda, that their application was still under review. He said Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), of which he was previously part of, and was formed among others by its former Chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the party's current Chairman/President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, was approved within 30 days under the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
"Why it was easy to get approval under Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his DPM (Deputy Prime Minister) (Datuk Seri) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi compared to the current leadership. "Even the ruling pact Perikatan Nasional was approved within three days," he said, adding the delay in approval for Muda by the RoS was unacceptable. RoS has yet to respond to a query from the New Straits Times on Muda's registration process as of press time.
Muda is not the only party requesting for their registration status from RoS.Previously, Dr Mahathir who now leads the independent political party, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang), sought an explanation over a similar delay of its registration.
In November, Bernama reported that Pejuang had submitted seven registration applications but has yet to receive any written reply from the government body.
